A few words from our founder!
I need your help.
I put together a simple garden irrigation system, based mainly on plastic parts.
Through it I've eliminated the daily carrying of water to my plants, while using only rain water and almost no electricity.
I'm certain that with a few small changes, it could win the clubs challenge.
I'm forming a team to accelerate the development.
The missing element though, is you!
Here's a link to my WIKI article explaining how it works.
My next goal is to fully automate it, while keeping costs to a minimum.
By placing an inexpensive stepper motor (can be found in an old CD/DVD drive),
on a 3d printed peg at each plant, the flow of water can easily be controlled.
A low cost Raspberry Pi has enough power to manage many plants and so much more.
The problem is that although I love to tinker and have a million ideas,
I'm not an electrician or computer programmer and learning by doing is very time consuming.
The challenge!
I believe that my garden when automated, can win the clubs challenge and I ask you to help me.
I believe it can be built for less than $1.00 per plant and require no supervision,
please contact me if you're interested in helping, Hunger has no place in our world, together we can stop it.
This goes way beyond gardening, the SDGs cover 17 areas which all desperately need you to get involved.
The clubs challenge is not just about hunger, any one of the 17 can be in your project.
Where to begin!
Many schools already offer programs which allow for experimentation in "Sustainability".
discuss your idea with your teacher, ask if you can use school funds to help reach Zero Hunger.
Look through my wiki, search within Appropedia, Thingiverse
and all the other wiki's as well as social media and YouTube to find challenges waiting to be solved.
Join together with others, ask for help, share what you learn and most of all, have fun.
If you don't live in poverty, the club believes you owe something to humanity!
Most of us reading this were born into a world of plenty!
We've never felt true hunger or poverty, but there are so many in our world who can't afford to eat every day.
The Global Goals were created to finally put an end to this suffering.
Please be a part in the elimination of this horrible injustice, solutions are within reach!
