Here's proof that young people can find it.
On a recent visit to Yale university I happened to be in the library when an amazing thing happened.
A group of students began putting up posters about topics they had researched.
I found some of them, though way above my understanding, amazingly close to our solutions.
Attached an example!

I realize that this papers basis goes in a direction which may not solve an SDG,
but it shows that a young person, given the right idea, can find answers not known today.
I ask you to show your students the clubs wiki,
point them to the future plans section
and ask them to investigate one topic.
I promise to publish as many of their ideas as I can, if you'll send them to me.
Please begin today, 2030 will be here before you know it
and no stone dare be left unturned.
The list is only the beginning, they'll have ideas which go way beyond my imagination.
I beg you to set those thoughts free!
Today Robert Kennedy spoke to me from the grave.
On a visit to Arlington cemetery I found his quote
and sensed my own ripple for the first time.
It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and injustice.
RFK was a man who stood up for what's right as I do in my work with the club.
Help me bring his words to life, add your ripple to mine.
Let's build a current strong enough to wash hunger from the face of the earth.
Let the world feel your ripple today!

Yes, it exists, the portable 3d printer can be used anywhere.
Imagine if you could 3d print in the field and almost completely from recycled junk!
The RepRap was designed for exactly that, and it's open source.
The attached article is an example of working together to reach common goals.
Students learn by helping solve your 3d print problems.
We're searching for solutions to problems holding the poor in their place.
We believe many of them will be solved in this way.
Please give them work! These students learn by designing 3d printed parts to fit your need.
I'll be asking them to design a part for my garden, I can't wait to see what they come up with.

The club wants you, no application required, you're in as soon as you believe.
Zero Hunger by 2030 is our goal! Solving it one step at a time our target!

Here's a story about my 1st garden in the local community.
Almost one year ago I spoke with the mayor of the town I live in for help with a project I wanted to start. I had never discussed it with anyone, so it was my first try. I told him I believe I have an idea which could change the world and I'd like to begin right here.
I explained my ideas briefly, gave him my web site address and a short time later had a meeting with several of his advisers about me creating gardens in his town. I explained that my real goal is a football field sized area on which we could offer €1.00 jobs to refugees. I showed the plan for a Walipini and explained that I'd build one along with above ground garden. He never got back with me, but one of his advisers did, the one from the local grade schools.
I was asked by 2 elementary schools to create gardens! One would have been only on window sills, except that they didn't follow up on the offer, the 2nd though did. By the time we identified the plot, had visits from engineers, workers, tractors, trucks and dirt deliveries, it was late when we started so missed things like potatoes, most cabbage varieties and corn. We made a nice garden which helped the cleaning lady, a few Syrians and I hope teachers over the summer, I'd ask each of them will write a short article with pictures if possible about our experiences and results, but we'll see what the future holds. I intend to ask the kids to do the same when they go back to school next week! We had 2 groups of 10 kids each, one with 3rd graders and one 1-2 graders.
We only had 2 X 45 minutes per group, but during that time I explained the fact the ~21,000 people die of hunger related symptoms on our planet, every day and many kids go to bed hungry or come to school hungry. Many kids will never go to school, they have to work or beg to help their family survive. Next came a short explanation of Sustainability and we got to the garden. We quickly scraped out the weeds and planted 3 pumpkins, 3 tomatoes in pots, a little cress, radish, 2 sorts of lettuce, cabbage and leak.
It amazed me to see how interested they were and each wanted a chance to put as many as possible into the ground with their own hands. Of course while each took her or his turn there was lots of time for the boys to battle dangerous snake weeds and the blackberry from the pit and the girls talked and laughed and before you knew it the first 2 weeks were gone. I promptly got a report from a hard working pair which warmed my heart and reminded me why I was there.
The 2nd group, the younger, had a chance at beats, an avocado, a thornless blackberry, Rosemary, Thymne and watering the garden and seeing the flowers and leaves and how they changed in such a short time. It was somewhat nerve racking to watch them jumping over our precious pumpkin runners, but everything survived. We also put stone rings around the plants so the teachers, cleaning ladies and janitor could see where to water in the 6 week German summer vacation.
I demonstrated watering with a plastic bottle with a tiny hole in the bottom and asked the 2nd group to think about a way to use the bottle to make watering easier for the summer. All found it interesting and one already knew what he'd build with his Opa (grandpa). I promised to present all in the internet and that doubly interested them. I can hardly wait to see the results and if anyone really had time in only 6 weeks.
I found this an interesting experiment! Through simple words and actions, it's possible to show a child what inequity the world holds and that food really is simple to produce. I believe that each of these kids was touched for life through this simple garden and the teachers told me what a great idea it was and that they could have done it years before. They only needed the idea!
After visiting the UN I intend to talk to the mayor again to see if he's found a plot of land and a way to fund €1.00 jobs for approx 100 people, including any interested German citizen. I want to recommend that this experiment be tried in many many cities beginning as soon as possible.
What is really needed to create a garden?
A plot of land!
Shovels, picks, hoes and other gardening tools.
Water tanks, hoses and connectors.
Seeds and know how.
Willing, hard working individuals.
Most importantly of all, a source of water, preferably not out of the tap. The rain is the ideal source, but it must be captured and saved, then pumped out of the earth for use. A simple manual pump should be adequate and I'd try building it using plans which already exist in Appropedia. I'd also hope to use plastic which now feeds our incinerators and land fill to create what it takes to 3d print, melt or use as is for parts we need. It would also be interesting to try to create electricity through the wind or sun. The goal being to produce a garden which could easily be reproduced anywhere, including refugee camps and there where starving people exist.
A topic I'm especially interested in answering, how do we collect, sort, wash and grind plastic? How can we find the right mixture for various things we'll need for our projects. For this I ask your help!
The GG club could really change the world, if only you'll pass our link to teachers, parents, Oma and Opa, students of any age, your politicians and anyone else who could be interested in our search.
If you feel that you could do something, anything within the SDGs, even if only something small; your ideas may be enough to get a group moving toward answers.
Vote for us to the UN, donate a no strings attached $1.00 per month to the WFP and maybe this plan will be the one that succeeds. Your vote asks the UN to take action and shows that you want it!

This challenge could change the world, are you interested?
The Global Goals club has set a target of 1 Jan 2020 for its world wide challenge,
and our Zero Hunger and more challenge needs you.
Zero Hunger is not going to solve itself, it requires new ideas, a new paradigm.
The world is full of plastic waste, find ways to reuse it to make something out of nothing.
Combine this plastic with inexpensive technology to enable never before dreamed of capabilities,
at an almost for free price.
The clubs WIKI begins with an idea for a garden which, using technology, could run automatically and be scaled to fit any sized garden plot.
It also includes a list of topics which, with imagination, could be the next big thing.
The list includes examples of projects already documented and ready to be improved upon.
Your projects don't need to be complicated, rather fun things which may already interest you.
You may have heard about home automation using a Pi computer,
we recommend you to use this idea on a garden.
We believe a computer controlled garden can be created for under $1.00 per plant.
Can you prove it?
The club is waiting for you, use the contact page for questions.

I really don't want to hurt anyones feelings, but...
I've been asked how I can write things such as my last post when I have no idea what you've gone through. I admit that I don't know your situation, because each of us had a story to tell.
What I know is this!
If your life has ever been good, a good job, enough food on the table and luxuries to enjoy,
then you've at least had the chance to see how good life can be.
Millions of humans have never had that opportunity!
Countless children will never visit school, because their parents can't find enough food or money to allow such luxuries. Do you consider them less human than you?
What will these children become when they grow up?
What could the future possible hold for someone who know nothing more than the bare minimum?
I'm not asking you to trade places with them, although you'd understand my point if you would.
I don't want money from you, although plenty of organisations would be happy to take it.
The last thing I want is for your position in life to be threatened, but look at the hard facts.
What exactly got you into the position you're in today?
I believe that capitalism has gotten out of hand, and you don't notice because it's every where!
Big business lies to you every day with their advertising to convince you what you can't live without.
Your politicians waste your money on war machines and false priorities.
You're willing to accept that people are worth millions, because they can play well.
Something is wrong with this paradigm and I want to bring it to your attention for 1 simple reason.
A very small piece of what you are could be enough to change the world!
I've only asked 3 things of you and none are for me, they are:
1) Share a link to my page to give others the chance to decide for themselves.
2) Show your solidarity with the poor by donating $1.00 per month to the WFP.
See it as your monthly appeal to the UN that you endorse the club and its goals.
3) Do one thing to change the world, even if it's only a small thing.
The clubs wiki has lots of examples of people who have done small things,
and each has led us a step closer to the answer.
Be the change!
Stop looking for excuses, get out of your chair and make a difference.
I know that many of you already do so much, then talk about it.
Let others know that the change is overdue and that you're a part of it.
I'm certain that this is the answer!
I'm only one small voice, but together we are strong.
Stand up straight, look in the mirror and tell yourself:

Stand up straight, look in the mirror and tell yourself:
Dear human,
Today I write to you with a sense of urgency!
I see that my ideas are fallling on deaf ears and hardened hearts
and that you may need to be taken by the shoulders and shaken awake.
I've been begging for help for 9 months, and until today still can't name 1 person who agrees with me, much less follows my light. I begin to wonder if mankind is worth saving!
What I offer is a simple idea which could easily be modified into a peaceful answer to the worlds problems. I don't ask for money, I shun recognition and praise, my only goal is peace on earth and good will toward all men and women.
Until today I've tried to leave religion completly out of my project, but today I feel it's needed.
As a chistian I was taught that "we were all created equal in the eyes of the Lord" and I know that the Quaran says essentially the same, "All men are created by One and the Same Eternal God"
Why then do you all look away from the desperate need in the world?
Are the poor not your equal?
I've heard so many fine excuses for why some of you can't help,
my job, my family or my house, they all require so much time.
"Animals can't take care of themselves, but people can."
"It's not my fault, I didn't take their money!"
"The poor are poor becuase they're lazy!"
I say "stand before your God and explain that"!
I don't want your excuses, I can't hear any more foolish justifications,
it's time for action, because your time is running out.
It's not God who keeps the repressed down, but humans.
The persuit of money and pleasure has made us blind to the fact that we steal the food right out of the hands of the poor with each day we chase our capitalistic ideals.
We rob the earth of her minerals and throw our waste into her oceans and air.
No matter what your politicians tell you, Mother Nature will make us pay
and only the rich are prepared for the concequences.
How does my plan change this?
I propose that we recycle plastic now polluting the earth into products capable of feeding the poor.
I propose that the poor be given jobs collecting, sorting, cleaning and recycling the plastic.
I propose that the recycled plastic be made into garden parts and given to the poor.
I propose that our youth create "how-to" lessons to teach poor children how to grow food.
The list goes much further if you'd care to hear it!
Just these few simple steps would greatly reduce pollution,
give desperately poor people opportunities to provide for their families,
remove the causes of much hatred and reasons for war,
which could all lead to the number one goal of all of mankind,
Peace on earth!
OK, it's not simple and it won't be solved tomorrow, but if we begin today,
Zero Hunger by 2030 could be within our reach.
I beg you to become a part of the solution!
Help me search for simple yet effective ways to turn garbage into hope.
Stop wasting time on excuses and pitch in, put the human back into humanity.

I just had a discussion which felt like I finally reached someone.
Sorry I haven't had much to say recently, but after all these months of trying,
I was beginning to doubt that there was even one single person who cared.
Weebly tells me that 2,659 people have viewed my site,
but no one contacts me, no one asks questions, no one clicks the like button.
I wondered if anyone even cares if we find an end to hunger.
I really was having doubts and thinking of giving up.
It's hard for me to understand how all of these people can think I'm only trying to cheat them.
Are my words so meaningless? Have I offended them all in some way?
The self doubt of fighting windmills can really be overpowering,
and you begin to question if mankind is really worth saving.
I'll admit to you today that I love computer games!
I became hooked as a young boy when Pong arrived and haven't stopped.
I taught myself how to fix computers, just so I could enjoy games,
because, like a book, they put me in a place I will never find in real life.
Today while enjoying my current online game, I told a few people about my idea.
You won't believe it, but i received positive feedback for the 1st time,
and it feels good.
I think I'm ready for the next offensive!
The Zero Hunger Challenge needs you!

My search for inexpensive solutions continues.
Zero Hunger will not be achieved by waiting or by hoping it goes away.
The poor do not have the capability to find the answers, they depend on us.
To this end I've created a list of topics which are stones in the path.
I continue to search for links to projects already in existence,
which can be combined into bigger projects,
to find practical solutions.
Please follow this link to my WIKI page!
It begins with my experiment in drip irrigation
followed by the list.
Please take the time to link your ideas into it,
or alternately, send me a link to the site and I'll link it for you.

Sorry if I've neglected you, I had too many fronts.
Here's what my plants are looking like today. I got the advice that they're a little small meaning too little water. I put down compost and cleaned each dripper, then set the drip rate to 3-7 seconds apart depending on the conditions I found with each plant.
In a few days we'll check again. It finally got warm here, so I'm thinking I may need a faster speed, but I'll try to let the plants tell me that.

Please give me your feedback!
I hope I finally reach someone willing to help, willing to talk to me.
I'm certain someone will find your answers of use.
If you have an idea for improving my system please talk about it.
You could be the catalyst of change!

If today's story doesn't touch your heart,
maybe you have ice running through your veins.
After seven months of working toward Zero Hunger,
I have my first real success story to report on.
It's a very minor success, but it made me so proud that I can't hold it inside,
it's 1:45 AM and I can't sleep until I've told the world.
Last week Wednesday I finally had my first garden time with 9 third graders.
We had exactly 50 minutes to get a mountain of work done,
so there was no time for long explanations or sermons as in these pages.
To begin, let me say that the kids are all German and I'm a foreigner!
My German is broken, some would laugh at it, but they accepted me and welcomed me.
What follows is a breakdown of our meeting!
I introduced myself and we began by collecting grass clippings to mulch our plants.
On the way back to the garden I sang them an English song,
"The itsy bitsy spider.", then they sang the German version for me.
In the garden they found that I had already planted 3 tomato plants and had them waiting.
This is because we're beginning so late and my plants were ready weeks ago.
I explained that we'd be planting 2 types of lettuce, 2 cabbage plants and pea,
radish and cress seeds, but first I wanted to explain why this garden was important.
I told them that the UN had announced Zero Hunger and that there are kids in our world
who go to school hungry, or can't go to school at all because they have to work.
I explained that this garden was to show them that it's really not so difficult to make food
and that even a child can do it and added a few words about sustainability.
I'd like make videos of them to give to poor kids to show them how to do it for themselves.
We then began working and the 50 minutes were gone and they had to go.
I asked them to please write a report about our meeting and I'd publish it here.
Today was our 2nd meeting and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears.
The first question was if we'd sing another English song today,
next they wanted to read their report. I'll include a copy for you to see,
but since it's in German, here a translation.
For the children in poor countries
There are very many children and young people who have nothing to eat. That's why we began a new workgroup (AG) in school. Herr Obs runs this AG. This AG is to teach children how to plant, pick and water vegetables. When we're finished with the AG Herr Obs will make a film of us to show the children in poor countries.
Short and sweet, 48 minutes work, 2 minutes talk and they understood my point.
Why can't you?

My proposal!
A group of college students allowed to use their specialties to solve problems.
in a Project or Bachelor/Masters thesis based within the Global Goals.
Combine a mini PC (Pi, Arduino...) with simple robotics, 3d printing, gardening,
plastic recycling, automation and sensors, all controlled with a simple handset (OLPC).
The challenge is to achieve no-budget solutions!
Under $1.00 per plant and re-usable for multiple years.
My drip system idea has very few parts and
all can be bought or created simply and inexpensively!
In the wiki I've provided lots to think about!
Search through Appropedia and you'll find an abundance of great idea.
On Pinterest you can find inspiration for so many others.
Social media is also full of groups waiting to help solve problems.
The time is now, the challenge has been made.
Prove that sustainability is not just a theory,
but a lifestyle.

You can even begin on the couch.
No more excuses, here's a guide even you can't ignore.
If the name fits you, please feel free to browse!
Stephen Hawking agrees with me, why don't you?
You may think I've only been ranting, but that's only an excuse.
Start talking, spread the word before we miss the chance.
We can end hunger if we work as a team!
I'm on Stephen's team, will you join me?
Here's your chance to leave feedback! You're welcome to praise, criticize or just talk, but please be nice.
Here we are,
being the light!
